The Opportunity
A leading global Defence prime is seeking an experienced Activity Manager to join their Industrial Centre of Competence in Sydney. This pivotal leadership role acts as the guarantor of performance for an Autonomous Production and Repair Unit (APRU), focusing on high-priority maritime work packages. Initially offered as a 3–4 month temporary assignment to manage a significant production surge, this position offers a clear pathway to permanent employment for a high-performing leader.
The Role
In this position, you will operate with the technical focus of a production supervisor but with elevated accountability for financial performance and work package delivery. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of up to thirty personnel, including three Team Leaders, ensuring that all electro-mechanical assembly, testing, and inspection activities meet strict contractual commitments. The scope of work is centered on critical components for the Collins Class submarine program, requiring a leader who can manage the complexities of both traditional and flow manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the functional management of end-to-end operations within your area, ensuring all activities align with time, cost, and quality standards. Your daily focus will include overseeing work order management, reporting on KPIs, and optimising workload and capacity to meet the customer’s daily expectations. You will proactively identify process improvement opportunities and implement Lean transformation tools, such as Gemba walks and Kaizen, to reduce rework and increase overall productivity. Additionally, you will handle essential people management tasks, including time and attendance via UKG, reconciling hours, and addressing performance related issues while fostering a positive cultural shift within the business.
About You
The successful candidate will possess a proven background in electro-mechanical assembly or similar production environments. You must demonstrate a high level of continuous improvement knowledge and have the ability to mobilise resources in a context of mutual respect.
